GreenVest maintains and active internship program in both our Denville, NJ and Annapolis, MD offices. Sr. Program/Project Manager – Ecosystem Restoration – Bowie, Maryland

The successful candidate should be energetic and motivated with knowledge and experience in ecological restoration and direct experience managing ecosystem restoration projects/programs.  Demonstrated experience in successfully managing client programs and/or individual ecosystem restoration projects, while maintaining attention to detail and high standards of quality is a must.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Minimum Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Water Resources, Environmental Science, Aquatic Ecology, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years professional experience for Sr. Program/Project Managers.
  • Direct experience in managing aquatic, ecosystem restoration projects and programs.
  • Ability and capacity to manage sub-consultants, subcontractors, and specific project tasks (including the development of related deliverables) through completion on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience developing and tracking project budgets, schedules and preparing or assisting in the preparation of construction cost estimates. This would include the preparation of scopes of work for and/or the review of scopes and budgets submitted by sub-consultants and sub-contractors.
  • Ability to manage internal personnel, sub-consultants and sub-contractors including the production of their work on budget and schedule from design/permitting through construction and maintenance/monitoring.
  • Ability to contribute in the development of restoration, mitigation or other GV client proposals.
  • Manage the completion of annual post-construction monitoring, including adherence to project-specific performance standards/monitoring protocols, collection of field data, reduction of data and preparation and submission of annual monitoring reports. Preference for direct experience in monitoring stream restoration projects.
  • Ability to oversee staff and support and/or collaborate with other senior staff in advancing GreenVest’s restoration projects or business development initiatives.
  • Effective communication, organization and technical writing skills with high standards of quality.

Desired Experience & Skills

  • Experience identifying and assessing the feasibility of restoration sites with a preference for direct experience in stream or riparian systems.
  • Knowledge of permitting requirements (local, state and federal) and/or direct experience in preparing, submitting applications and securing permits for ecosystem restoration projects (specific experience in Maryland strongly preferred).
  • Stream functional assessment (geomorphic and quantitative) experience preferred.
  • Ecosystem restoration construction oversight/management, including: construction cost estimating, contract administration, construction quality control, and soil erosion and sediment control inspection and compliance. Strong preference for direct experience in stream and wetland systems.
  • Green infrastructure and/or stormwater management design and implementation.
  • Field data collection and sampling techniques, including monitoring well and stream gauge installation, automated data logger operation, data reduction and analysis, and GPS-based sampling.

Strong program/project management, organizational, research, cost estimating/budgeting, time management, and technical writing skills are required.  Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus, along with a technical background in the ecological sciences or water resources engineering with a focus on aquatic ecosystem restoration and/or water resources.  Must be able to work in collaborative team settings as well as independently with minimal supervision and direction on multiple projects concurrently.  Must possess the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients.  Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills are a must.

Necessary software skills include Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, MS Project. Working knowledge of either ArcMap or basic AutoCAD a plus.  Successful candidates will possess a minimum of 10 years’ experience with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, passion for and devotion to the ecosystem restoration profession.

GIS Specialist – Bowie, Maryland

GreenVest seeks a full-time, project level, GIS Specialist to work in the challenging and rewarding field of ecosystem restoration. We are looking for an energetic candidate with experience geospatial analysis and mapping in the field of environmental design/planning particularly in the area of ecosystem restoration.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Minimum Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Water Resources, Environmental Science, Ecology, Geography, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or related field.
  • 3-5 years professional GIS experience using ESRI ArcMap and full familiarity with Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst extensions.

(GIS coursework not considered professional experience).

  • Proven ability to organize, analyze, and process geospatial data and produce accurate and visually appealing cartographic output.
  • Experience configuring and uploading data into field-collection instruments, like handheld GPS and TotalStation units, and downloading and post-processing the collected datasets.
  • Familiarity with Mid-Atlantic political and physical geography, especially in Maryland.
  • Ability to work in outdoor settings.
  • Effective communication, organization and technical writing skills with high standards of quality.

Desired Experience & Skills

  • Experience using AutoDesk Civil 3D (particularly Map 3D) with the ability to move data fluidly to and from ArcGIS.
  • Experience in field data collection and sampling techniques including ecological inventories, monitoring well and stream gauge installation, automated data logger operation/installation, GPS based sampling, and data collection and reduction.
  • Experience developing web-based maps.
  • Experience using model-builder to develop repeatable processes.
  • Working knowledge of Python is a plus.
  • Experience delineating watersheds or any other hydrologic or hydraulic modeling skills a plus.
  • Practical experience in conducting annual monitoring of stream and/or wetland restoration projects including data collection, data reduction and report preparation preferred.
  • Experience in restoration ecology, fluvial geomorphology, stream and/or aquatic ecology including stream functions and functional assessment.
  • Knowledge of local, state, federal regulations related to ecosystem restoration, Section 404 based mitigation and/or TMDL/MS4 compliance (Maryland or Chesapeake Bay State experience strongly preferred).
  • Knowledge of basic principles and approach to development of green infrastructure and/or stormwater best management (BMP) practices or projects.

Strong organizational, research and technical writing skills are required, including the ability to find solutions to complex problems and develop repeatable workflows.  Must be able to work in team settings as well as independently with minimal supervision and direction on multiple projects, at times concurrently.  Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients.  Successful candidates will possess a minimum of 3-5 years of experience with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, passion for and devotion to the ecosystem restoration profession.
