Community Resource Page – Eagle Harbor

Construction is complete on The Eagle Harbor Stream Restoration and Community Resiliency Project. The project, now in the Maintenance and Monitoring phase, is being implemented by the Town of Eagle Harbor, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Prince George’s County Department of Environment and GV-Petro Joint Venture, LLC (a partnership between GreenVest and Petro Design Build Group). Educational signage has been placed to inform visitors about the purpose of the project and to describe some of the features that were included.

The Project represents a solution for the long-term flooding and erosion problems that have plagued the Town of Eagle Harbor, MD. The Project included approximately 3,100 linear feet of stream restoration including the mainstem and tributaries of Coleman Creek and the replacement of two undersized culverts within the Town of Eagle Harbor. Additionally, the Project established a riparian buffer by planting thousands of native trees and shrubs with a robust forest floor of upland and wetland grass varieties. Maintenance and Monitoring activities will include removal of non-native and invasive plant species and continued care of native trees and shrubs.

The Project Team would like to thank the citizens and government of the Town of Eagle Harbor for their contributions during the design phase and for their patience during the construction phase. This support allowed the project to be successful; the Town of Eagle Harbor remains “Paradise on the Patuxent!”
