Construction Oversight Manager – Maryland

GreenVest seeks a full-time Construction Manager to work in the challenging and rewarding field of ecosystem restoration. The successful candidate could be based out of GreenVest’s Bowie or Baltimore, Maryland office. This is both a field and office-based position, with site visits to projects all over the state of Maryland.

GreenVest seeks an energetic and motivated candidate with knowledge and experience in ecological restoration with direct experience managing construction of ecosystem restoration projects. Demonstrated experience in successfully managing the construction of large-scale ecosystem restoration projects while maintaining attention to detail and high standards of quality is a must.

GreenVest is a dynamic and collaborative work environment. The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal skills capable of effectively working with and directing subcontractors and informing clients and key stakeholders. The successful candidate must be able to work on multiple projects concurrently in both collaborative and independent settings. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong technical skills including the ability to read and understand design plans, verify as-built conditions are consistent with design plans, and verify the quantity of units installed/constructed. Additionally, the successful candidate will have good oral and written communication skills, construction & logistics acumen, and be an effective critical thinker with problem-solving skills.

Minimum Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate must have a passion for the environment, positive attitude, strong work ethic, be able to work in a demanding and dynamic work environment, and have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Water Resources, Environmental Science, Aquatic Ecology, Civil Engineering, or related field, or 5+ years of construction oversight or management experience.
  • Strong construction oversight or management skills with demonstrated experience in completing all construction phases.
  • Experience tracking project quantities and budgets accurately over a long period of time.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills (including documentation and personal record keeping).
  • Ability to read and interpret complex design plans and enforce proper installation/construction of project elements.
  • Strong knowledge of unit price, lump sum, and time & materials construction contract mechanisms and their appropriate applications and measurements during implementation.
  • Excellent technical writing skills with high standards of quality.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat/Bluebeam, and field/construction reporting software.
  • Ability and capacity to manage subcontractors, sub-consultants, and specific project tasks (i.e. project milestone deliverables) through completion on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience complying with NPDES regulations and knowledge of the 20-CP and/or 2022 CGP, including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) preparation and compliance reporting.
  • Ability to work in physically challenging outdoor settings.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Oversight or management of aquatic ecosystem restoration construction projects with an emphasis on wetland, stream, and living shoreline restoration, stormwater management, and/or land development.
  • Understanding of market prices for construction and construction materials and ability to assist in value engineering during design and construction.
  • Experience preparing or assisting in the preparation of construction cost estimates.
  • Knowledge of permitting requirements (local, state, and federal) and experience in preparing and submitting applications and securing permits for ecosystem restoration projects. Specific permitting experience in Maryland is a plus.
  • Experience in post-construction monitoring data reduction, analysis, and report development is a plus.
  • Experience using ArcMap and/or AutoCAD and project and/or resource management software and tools is a plus.
